Everyone wants their teams to succeed, but even the very best of teams still struggle. Usually, it is because these teams fall victim to one of several dysfunction which break down teamwork and cripples effectiveness. In the book The Five Dysfunctions Of A Team by Patrick Lencioni, he unveils the 5 dysfunctions of a team and how you as a leader can overcome them.
In the video summary, we talked about how each of these 5 dysfunctions are like a link in a chain. If one of the dysfunctions is allowed to happen, it will cause everything else to begin to breakdown and your team will start to decay. The important thing, is to be able to identify which dysfunctions are present and deal with them rapidly. So in this discussion guide, we are going to help you break down each dysfunction and see if any of them are present in your team.
Sometimes we make leadership more difficult than it needs to be. If you think about it, leadership is easy 90% of the time. It’s the 10% of the time is why you get paid to be the leader. It’s why you’re in the position, it’s the difficult decisions you have to make. But the truth is, leadership really is easy 90% of the time, but not for everybody.
There are some people who just struggle with leadership and they complain about the people and they feel like they have problems 90% of the time. When you have problems with your team 90% of the time, I think that’s when we have to stop and look in the mirror and begin to ask, “Is the problem the people or the way I’m leading?”
So here are 8 simple rules to help you be a better leader.
